Background information of University/location

Erasmus University Rotterdam’s history goes back to 1913, when the Netherlands School of Commerce was founded through a private initiative with broad support from the Rotterdam business community. This school is nowadays known as Erasmus School of Economics and forms, together with 7 other schools, Erasmus University Rotterdam.

The university gained worldwide fame with its education and research in the fields of economics and econometrics and with its renowned professors, such as Johannes Witteveen, who became the first Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Henri Theil, and Jan Tinbergen, who won the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1969. One of the 2021 Nobel laureate in economics Guido Imbens studied econometrics in Rotterdam.

 

Information on how to reach the conference venue

Rotterdam is easy to reach by train, car, bus, plane, or boat. Participants are encouraged to check out train connections, as the city is in many cases surprisingly easy to reach by (international) trains. Rotterdam has its own airport (Rotterdam The Hague Airport, RTHA) with direct flights to several large cities including Rome, Barcelona, London, and Istanbul. Moreover, Schiphol Airport Amsterdam is just a 27 minutes train ride.

Woudestein Campus is situated at the Burgemeester Oudlaan 50 in Rotterdam. The campus can easily be reached by car or with public transportation.

Public transportation
RET is the independent public transport company that serves the southern part of the Randstad conurbation. With the trams or subway of the RET, you can travel to the campus.

From Rotterdam Central Station
Tram 7, direction Woudestein, stop ‘Erasmus Universiteit’.
Tram 11 or 1 direction De Esch. Stop ‘Woudestein’.
Subway, direction Slinge. Transfer at Beurs, to subway in the direction of Binnenhof, Nesselande or De Terp. Get off the subway at station Kralingse Zoom. This subway is within walking distance (10 minutes) of the campus.

From Rotterdam Alexander
Subway, direction Schiedam Centrum or De Akkers. Get off the subway at station Kralingse Zoom. This subway is within walking distance (10 minutes) of the campus.

Route description car
The Woudestein campus is situated near the A16 and easily accessible by car.
On the A16, from both directions, take exit 25 (Centrum).
Follow the signs ‘Centrum’. Turn right at the traffic lights (Burgemeester Oudlaan).
You will find the Woudestein campus on the right-hand side.
